Long Term Goals
Forest Ridge students have been focused on our Green School goals for 13 years, and will continue to examine current needs and challenges in our environment, and stay committed to doing what they can to improve the health of our planet.
Our Green School student leaders will continue to focus on educating the community about the detrimental effects that single use plastics have on our environment. They will continue to support the use of reusable water bottles and the elimination of straws in our cafeterias. We will work to reduce our paper use by using Google Docs, Pear Deck, Google Slides, Flipgrid, Jamboard, Wixie, WeVideo and many other electronic tools that we have become familiar with in virtual learning.
We will continue to partner with Mother Nature’s, our local ecological retail market, so we are able to provide seed for our feeders and able to offer Project Feeder Watch to our students. We will work to further our partnerships with Coastal Conservation and Less Plastics, Please.
FRES students and staff will continue to promote walking and bicycling as the preferred methods of transportation. A new initiative will be to have students educate the community about the emissions that are put into our environment when people sit and idle in their cars. We plan to put up signs for a “no-idle” zone in our car loop, as well as research and promote the new regulations for greenhouse gas emissions and fuel economy standards that will be coming soon to our state.
We also plan to plant more bushes, trees, and native milkweed in our schoolyard to encourage birds and butterflies to visit!
