Kindergarten Gingerbread Traps
In kindergarten there is a Gingerbread unit. The classes read Gingerbread Girl, Gingerbread Boy, and Gingerbread Baby, Gingerbread Man. The students built Gingerbread Traps with recycled materials. 12/2019 - 119 students
Kindergarten Recycled Robots
For the Recycled Robots unit, students were given a tray in the middle of their tables with found materials from around the room such as feathers, cardboard, scrap paper that had been painted on, buttons, and jewels. We discussed taking materials that have been used before and creating something new and exciting with them! Students were able to explore various materials and make personal artistic choices depending on what they wanted their robots task to be, which is why each robot is so unique!

As a part of math curriculum, students explored attributes of polygons, identifying 2 and 3 dimensional shapes, and composed 2 and 3 dimensional shapes. In a culminating activity, students gathered recycled materials and created their own Shapetown.

In Science, 1st grade students learn about how external parts and
behaviors of living things help them to survive. A trip to Robinsons Nature Center allows students to see plants, trees, and animals in their different habitats. It helps to build an awareness of nature and what is needed for survival and growth. 11/2018 - 107 students

Grade 3 Butterflies
Our 3rd graders study the life cycle of butterflies. They have the wonderful experience of watching larvae be transformed into butterflies. This year we planted milkweed on school grounds and our 3rd graders set the butterflies "free" into the milkweed.

Students were taught by green team members during lunch shifts which items were able to be recycled. Students then demonstrated their knowledge when they engaged in a recycling relay during field day.

The Great Pacific Ocean Patch
In the spring of 2020, when we began Virtual Learning in response to Covid-19, 5th graders participated in an online lesson through our LMS, Canvas, where they were introduced to the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Students watched videos, read articles with background information, and learned about the current project cleanup attempt invented by Boyan Slat, the CEO of The Ocean Cleanup. Students answered discussion questions and responded to each other's reflections on the topic. 4/2020 125 students
