Earth Day Celebration
May 2018
Modified “Earth Hour”
As part of our “Earth Day” celebration, we observed a modified Earth Hour. Earth Hour is a worldwide one-hour event that occurs every year near the end of March and helps unite people in their effort to save the planet. On April 18, 2018, we observed a modified Earth Hour by turning off all classroom lights for 10 minutes. Teachers were free to use this time to conduct community circles to discuss ways to help protect the Earth or share a theme related read-aloud.
“Earth Day” Read-Alouds 2018
As part of our 2018 “Earth Day” celebration, 15 theme related read-alouds were displayed in the staff lounge. Teachers signed out the books and shared them with their classes. Several teachers commented that they had never seen a particular book before and how much their students enjoyed it. The books were available from April 16 to April 30. Below is a list of the books that were displayed.
